Overview: In everyday life, common wire and cable products can be broadly categorized into the following five types: bare wire products, power cables, flat cables, communication cables and optical fibers, as well as winding wires. (1) Bare wire products are characterized by their pure conductive metal core, lacking both insulation and sheathing layers. Examples include steel‑core aluminum stranded wire, copper‑aluminum busbars, and electric locomotive overhead contact wires—all of which fall under the category of bare products. These products are primarily used in suburban and rural areas, on main user lines, in switchgear, and other similar applications. The majority of their manufacturing processes involve pressure working techniques such as melting, rolling, drawing, stranding, and compacted stranding.
Common in daily life Wires and Cables They can be broadly categorized into the following five types: bare wire products, power cables, flat cables, communication cables and optical fibers, as well as winding wires.
(1) Bare wire products
Characteristics of these products: They are made entirely of conductive metal, with no insulation or sheathing. Examples include steel‑core aluminum stranded wire, copper‑aluminum busbars, and electric locomotive cables—all of which are bare products. These products are primarily used in suburban and rural areas, on main user lines, in switchgear, and similar applications. The majority of their manufacturing processes involve pressure working, such as melting, rolling, drawing, stranding, and compacted stranding.
(2) Power Cables
Characteristics of these products: An insulation layer is extruded over the conductor. Examples include overhead insulated cables and multi‑core stranded cables—such as overhead insulated cables with two or more cores—or cables that are further equipped with a sheath, like plastic‑ or rubber‑sheathed wires and cables. The primary manufacturing processes include wire drawing, stranding, insulation extrusion, cable assembly, armor wrapping, and sheath extrusion, with varying combinations of these processes depending on the specific product. These products are mainly used for high‑voltage power transmission in power generation, distribution, transmission, transformation, and supply lines. Wires and Cables The current passing through is high, and the voltage is high.
(3) Flat Cable
Characteristics of these products: a wide variety of types and specifications, extensive use across numerous applications—particularly below 1 kV—rapid product updates and replacements, including fire‑resistant, high‑temperature‑resistant, oil‑resistant, cold‑resistant, and abrasion‑resistant cables; flame‑retardant cables; low‑smoke, halogen‑free cables; low‑smoke, low‑halogen cables; antitermite and rodent‑proof cables; medical, agricultural, and mining cables; as well as thin‑wall wires, among others.
(4) Communication Cables and Optical Fibers
The rapid rise of the telecommunications industry has seen a transformation from simple telephone and telegraph cables to thousands of pairs of voice cables, coaxial cables, optical cables, data cables, and even composite communication cables. These products demand high manufacturing precision and require small yet uniform structural dimensions.
(5) Winding wire
Winding wire is conductive metal wire coated with an insulating layer, used to wind coils or windings for electrical products. When in operation, it generates a magnetic field through the flow of current or induces an electric current by cutting magnetic field lines, thereby converting electrical energy into magnetic energy—and is therefore also known as electromagnetic wire.
